The Postero Alto Refuge (now called the Picón de Jérez Refuge) is located on the northern slope of the Sierra Nevada, within the National Park, in the Marquesado del Zenete region (municipality of Jérez del Marquesado).

From its location, it commands a vast panoramic view that stretches from the Hoya de Guadix-Baza to the peaks and ridges of the Nevada massif.

It is located at the foot of Picón de Jérez, halfway between Jérez del Marquesado and Puerto de Trevélez, on the Loma de Enmedio. It blends well into the surroundings and can be easily spotted from higher elevations as it lies within a firebreak.

Activities from the refuge: Ascents to Picón de Jeres, Cerro de Trevélez, and Puntal de Juntillas. Ice climbing in the Alhorí cirque. Start of the Tresmiles Integral, the marked Sulayr trail, and the PR-A 344 Avión trail.

Coordinates: UTM-ETRS89. 30S x= 481993 y= 4110076. Cartography: I.G.N. 1:25.000, sheet 1027-II PICÓN DE JEREZ.

Good Practices Sierra Nevada National Park

- Find out about available spaces in advance. - Visit visitor centers, information points, and ecomuseums to get the most out of your visit. - Use water responsibly. It is a scarce resource. - Do not disturb or feed the animals. This would negatively affect their behavior. - Check the weather forecast before starting your activity. - Close the shelter door when you leave. - Bring water, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing and footwear. - Bring a cell phone with sufficient battery in case of emergency (112), but remember that there is not always coverage. - Respect the operating rules posted at the shelter. - If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the staff. - Follow the recommendations and comply with the regulations at all times. - Respect the facilities made available to you. We all pay for their maintenance. - Do your part to prevent fires. Do not throw cigarettes or any other combustible object. - Trash doesn't come back alone. Take it with you to the nearest trash can. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. - Noise is another form of pollution. You'll enjoy your experience more in silence. - Interact respectfully with local residents and other users. Respect private property. - Make it easy for people with special needs to use it. - By consuming local products and supporting local businesses, you will contribute to rural development. - Practice responsible tourism and be committed to the environment. Be a true ecotourist! - Never abandon your pet in the wild. This would endanger the local flora and fauna. - Travel sustainably: use public transport, bicycle, foot, electric or shared vehicles... Park in designated areas. - Leave no trace of your time in nature. The best souvenir you can take home is your own photograph. - Your safety is our concern, but it is your responsibility. - The conservation of natural spaces is also in your hands. Thank you for your cooperation! - Inform yourself in advance about the possible existence of hunting activities.
